The Hold Steady’s fifth studio album, Heaven is Whenever, came out last week. On first listen, I wasn’t a huge fan. Then I put it in my car. I forget that The Hold Steady graduated from headphones long ago. These tunes are meant for the arena, to be pumped loud and unabashed from speakers. Craig Finn’s lyrics are no longer intimate stories, but manifest themselves as...

Wes Anderson turns 41 today. As a present, I think I’m going to go buy Fantastic Mr. Fox and watch it tonight.

Isaiah 40
I spent a lot of time reading Isaiah 40 today. If you’re looking for a chance to expand your view of God, and put yourself in your proper place, it’s a pretty great read.
Who has measured the Spirit of the Lord, or what man shows him his counsel? Whom did he consult, and who made him understand? Who taught him the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of...
Baseball
To all my friends, I apologize for not talking about baseball enough this week. I’ve been busy, but don’t worry I’ve still been keeping up. I’m actually going to my first game of the year on Saturday. It’s only a match up of Zach Greinke, the reigning AL Cy Young winner, and Josh Beckett, the ace of my beloved Boston Red Sox. It should be a great pitching duel....

I watched this over at Matt’s house about a month ago. Highly recommended (if you’re not easily offended). It’s really worth it for his nicknames alone (see: The Wretched Harmony and Ronnie the Bear).
Our Refrigerator is Gross
me: Josh, what's in that Cool Whip container in the back of our fridge?
Josh: (upon opening) Disgusting. It looks like little smokies. When did we have those?
me: I'm not sure, but they can't be older than Thanksgiving. We cleaned everything out, remember?
(pause)
Josh: JD, it's March.

Time to read some Romans...
This year we’ve been going through The Reason for God in the group I’ve been helping lead. Tim Keller uses the book to address some of the most common doubts concerning Christianity while pastoring his church in downtown NYC. Last night, we asked the question of how a good God can condemn seemingly good people to hell (fun, I know!).
At the end of the night, one of the guys I love...
ZOMG LOST!!@#!
Best episode of the season so far. I feel like I have a billion different hypotheses about different aspects of what we saw tonight. If you’re as nuts as I am, call me. We’ll talk.
Jen: I'm so thankful for my Super Sweet Sixteen show.
me: Haha. You STILL watch that?
Jen: Of course! I have to be reminded that my goal in teaching is to make my kids never become like those kids.
me: I hope my kid stars on that show.
Jen: Hahahaha your kid will prob be on 16 and pregnant.

I have a design crush on absolutely anything that Chris Shiflett and Jon Tan work on. Chris is a leading voice in web security and Jon Tan makes some of my favorite web typography choices for his designs. Hold Alt+G on the page to see how they used the rule of thirds to lay out all of their content.
Internet Explorer Sucks
As usual always, after spending 4 hours getting Redeemer’s new navigation menu set up the way we wanted it, I’ll probably have to spend the entire weekend researching how to hack it up to look good in IE.
Thankfully, less than 30% of our traffic is on IE, and I could care less if those people can access our site.

Haircut
I got my hair cut today at my favorite place (the only legit Fantastic Sam’s I know of). I’m on a first name basis with the two girls. Natalie even showed me her baby today. What’s great is that, since I’m their friend now, they actually try when they cut my hair. Basically, I get a $20 haircut for $12. It’s the only place in Overland Park that actually makes me feel...

It asked which I preferred, so of course I said Gryffindor. Then it said, “Are you kidding me,” and put me in Hufflepuff. I’m embarrassed.
Ouch.
I mean, Hufflepuff are hard workers, so that’s something.
